Tucson Symphony Orchestra
Musicians performing tonight are members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the oldest orchestra in the southwest, celebrating its 78th year of providing music of the highest level to the residents of southern Arizona. Musicians come to the TSO through national auditions, and are graduates of the finest universities and conservatories in the country and abroad. The artistic excellence of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra has been recognized nationally with increasingly significant awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, providing a positive national image for our state. The Tucson Symphony Orchestra is the recipient of the 2004 Governors Arts Award in recognition of TSO’s significant impact on the community, and the 2003 Bank of America Award for Excellence in Orchestra Education. These awards are a reflection of the talent of the musicians you hear tonight.
The Tucson Symphony Orchestra has a strong commitment to music education in the community. Last year over 22,200 children in pre-school to college benefited from over 300 education presentations throughout Tucson and southern Arizona. The Tucson Symphony Orchestra recognizes that awareness and appreciation of music lead to improved educational development in children and adults, and creates a strong community.
