Public Art Administration

1% for Public Art

I. Introduction

  • Quality of life in one of the main reason people say they move to Oro Valley.  Certainly the Natural beauty that surrounds this Town is part of that, as are the good schools, the golf courses, and our low crime rate.  But the arts, too, contribute to the sense of community that makes Oro Valley unique.

For this reason, the Arts Advisory Board recommended the Town adopt an ordinance establishing the 1% for Public Art Program.  Passed by the Oro Valley Town Council in September 1997, this ordinance requires that 1% of the total budget of every new private commercial construction project within the Town be set aside to create public art.

The 1% for Public Art Program is a vast reflection of the Town’s ongoing commitment to beauty and excellence.  From lizard statutory to freestanding sculpture, the artwork generated by this program will certainly enhance the quality of life for all who live or work here in Oro Valley.
